There is no secret formula for being good at anything I think. It all has to do with how much time you put into it and how much drive you have to want to be better. Paint lots, draw lots and bit by bit you start to rationalize how things look in your head- you develop a rule set that is all your own because you made it.
For painting mechanical things... use straight lines and perspective!
Do you have a tip on where I should start in order to learn drawing scapes and architecture? I've mostly drawn people, completely neglecting environments. Is drawing after photos and real-life buildings a good start?
